Urban Meyer may have a three-way starting quarterback competition on his hands now, but he has shored up his signal caller for when there is no more Cardale Jones, J.T. Barrett or Braxton Miller.
According to 247Sports.com, four-star QB prospect Tristen Wallace has verbally committed to Ohio State University (OSU). Meyer, coach of the reigning National Champion Buckeyes, apparently swayed Wallace's final decision.
"The biggest reason I chose Ohio State is because of coach Meyer," Wallace told 247Sports.com. "He had a big influence on me and my parents. He truly, genuinely cares about my well being and my life without football. Ohio State is a winning program. They run the type of offense our high school team runs. That's what I want to play in. Plus it feels like home there. I see myself there."
Among the top five dual threat QBs in the class of 2016, Wallace had offers from schools all over the country including Mississippi State, UCLA, Nebraska and more. The DeSoto, Texas high school QB could have also chosen from a number of schools within the state like Texas, TCU, Texas Tech and SMU.
Wallace visited the Columbus, Ohio campus late last month and rated the trip "a 10," according to Bleacher Report. Making the transition from DeSoto to Columbus much easier will be Wallace's long-time friend Dontre Wilson, a former high school teammate and OSU running back.
At six feet and three inches tall and 228 pounds in weight, Wallace has terrific size for a QB, but his 4.4-second 40-yard dash time also indicates serious top-end speed.
Meyer currently has three QBs competing to start this season all three will be eligible to declare for the NFL Draft after the season is over. As many as two - Jones and Barrett - will have remaining NCAA eligibility after this season.
