Iowa State University (ISU) has acknowledged reports of two football players who were arrested separately Saturday night and early Sunday morning.
According to the Des Moines Register, the two players' arrests were separate incidents and occurred several hours after the Cyclones' annual spring game.
"We are aware of the situations involving our student-athletes," ISU head football coach Paul Rhoads said in a statement released by the athletic department Sunday. "We are now in the process of gathering more facts and information."
His son, Jake Rhoads, a 20-year-old sophomore wide receiver on the team, was arrested around 11:25 p.m. and later charged with public intoxication. Terry Ayeni, a 23-year-old sophomore defensive lineman, was arrested just before 2 a.m. Sunday on disorderly conduct charges.
Both players were taken to Story County Jail and have each since been released on bail. Officers who arrested Ayeni told the Register he "punched a guy in the head," though his charge is a misdemeanor in Iowa.
Ayeni did not play last season due to a torn ACL, but recorded one tackle in the spring game Saturday. Rhoads caught three passes in the game for 24 yards, but it is not clear how much playing time he can expect this season.
