Jameis Winston is widely seen as a lock for the first pick in the NFL Draft, but that does not mean it will not be a highly scrutinized and discussed selection.

The stars aligned for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers; their new coach reportedly loves Winston's style of play and the young QB has done everything right this offseason. He may even be making the right choice in skipping the NFL Draft ceremony in Chicago April 30.

First reported by Sports Illustrated's Peter King, Winston has elected to remain at his home in Hueytown, Ala. during the NFL Draft. There will no doubt be a camera there with him to get his reaction on being drafted, most likely first overall.

ESPN later spoke to Winston's father, Antonor, who confirmed his son's draft day plans. Even the lawyer that represented Winston during the sexual assault proceedings while he was at Florida State University confirmed his client's current thinking.

A projected first-overall selection skipping the draft is not unprecedented, but Deadspin.com offered a more grim reason for Winston's decision. The website posited the likelihood that Winston would be "heckled mercilessly by the draft crowd."

Still, as the Tampa Bay Times conveniently compiled in one article, draft experts across the board project Winston going first overall to the Buccaneers.

In addition to putting on an exemplary performance at the NFL Scouting Combine and testing off the charts in the mental aspects of the position, Winston reportedly met with the Buccaneers' ownership uncommonly early. Then after that meeting, Winston went to New York to visit with NFL officials, including commissioner Roger Goodell, ESPN learned.

King cited a source at the time who said Winston "went out of his way to make a good impression, and to show that he understood what was going to be expected of him in the NFL."
