March Madness 2015 is here, as the conference championships have given way to the NCAA Tournament.
The story of Selection Sunday and the official bracket's unveiling was where everyone would align after Kentucky. Now teams placed in the East and South regions of the field will be happy to know they would only have to face the undefeated Wildcats in the title game.
Now that Kentucky has gotten through the regular season and SEC Tournament without a loss, they can pursue the first perfect season - start to finish - since the 1975-1976 Indiana Hoosiers.
"Everyone is 0-0 right now," Kentucky coach John Calipari told ESPN. "This is a one-game shot.
"All I want for my team right now is individually to be the best version of yourself."
For those locking in Kentucky to reach the Final Four, and even the championship game, it may well be a safe bet. For the Win noted Kentucky's relatively easy region, which comes after they mowed through the SEC, only playing one nationally ranked team during conference play.
But as the old adage goes for sports, the NCAA Tournament in particular, "anything can happen." Therefore Kentucky could make the most of a weak tournament schedule to cruise to the Final Four and make history.
According to ESPN's Darren Rovell, half the 825,000 brackets submitted on ESPN.com picked Kentucky to win the title. Their 1-1 odds are well beyond the second-most-likely team, Wisconsin and Duke, who both have 13-2 odds, Bleacher Report noted.
So at the end of the day, when you are filling out your bracket before the First Four gets underway Tuesday, you will probably be picking Kentucky or someone else to anchor your prediction.
"I think I have the best team and the best players," Calipari said. "Does that mean we'll win? No, it doesn't."
