AP Top 25 College Basketball Poll 2014 Week 16: Kentucky Still Unanimous No. 1 With 4 Games to Go
ByThe countdown for the Kentucky Wildcats (1) to go undefeated in the regular season is down to four games in two weeks.
After playing Mississippi State on the road Wednesday, Kentucky will host Arkansas (18) Saturday, followed by Georgia on the road next Tuesday and Florida at home the following Saturday. After beating Auburn 110-75, Kentucky also held onto all 65 of the Associated Press voters' first-place votes.
After a week displaced from the second overall spot, Virginia (2) spent its third straight week behind Kentucky in week 16. Since the 10th week of the AP poll, Virginia was Kentucky's no. 2, until week 13 when they suffered their first loss of the season.
One through eight did not change, as Gonzaga (3), Duke (4), Wisconsin (5), Villanova (6), Arizona (7) and Kansas (8) stayed put. Notre Dame (9) and Northern Iowa (10) each rose one spot to round out the top 10. In what has been an uneventful top 25 of late, only one team moved at least five spots and two moved at least four.
Oklahoma and Ohio State fell off the top 25 and San Diego State (24) and Providence (25) took their spots.
As Kentucky continues to strive for a perfect regular season, their two remaining home games figure to be their biggest tests. Arkansas has won six in a row and nine of their last 10 games. The SEC's second-place team is averaging nearly 80 points per game with 17 assists, both of which are among the best in the nation.
Kentucky played Florida on the road back on Feb. 7 and the Gators played the Wildcats about as tough as a team has this season. Kentucky came away with a 68-61 win, but went into halftime down two points.
