Dorial Green Beckham NFL Draft Projection Largely Dependent on Evaluators' Opinion of His Character
ByDorial Green-Beckham may well be fortunate to be in the NFL Draft, let alone to be regarded as potentially one of the most talented wide receivers in his class.
Green-Beckham is going into the NFL Scouting Combine in a loaded wide receiver class headlined by the likes of Amari Cooper, Kevin White and Davante Parker. Green-Beckham is six-foot-four, has great speed for someone his size, good hands; he is an overall nightmare to matchup against.
But his red flags are glaring and impossible to overlook.
According to ESPN, he has been arrested for marijuana twice and accused of breaking into an apartment in Columbia, Missouri, shoving someone down a flight of stairs. Though Green-Beckham did not face charges for any of it, he was dismissed from Missouri Tigers and barred from playing for the Oklahoma Sooners after transferring there.
"All the decisions I made, I wish I could take it back," Green-Beckham said at the NFL Combine, according to ESPN. "It's happened. I was young. I made mistakes. I understand that and I just want to focus on one thing and look forward to this draft and focus on being the best I can be.
"I proved that I'm a better person by showing them how mature I've grown.
"This past few months have been real tough on me, missing a whole season, missing playing with my teammates, just missing football, period."
His skills are undeniable and his physical tools are simply not teachable, but those past mistakes will hold him back on draft night. He has a chance to turn things around. He will crush the physical drills at the combine, but he just has to convince a team to take a chance on him.
"He's one of the best receivers I've ever seen," one AFC college scout told NFL.com. "He's special. He's gigantic; he has tremendous body control, balance; he runs like a deer and can leap out of the gym and high-point the ball. He's special. It's impressive. If not for all that stuff, he'd be the best receiver to come out since Calvin Johnson."
