Coach Mike Krzyzewski and Duke have been able to create favorable matchups for themselves consistently thanks to their dominant center, Jahlil Okafor. The seven-foot, 270-pound freshman sensation is averaging 18 points per game, nine rebound and more than a block per game. His presence in the post is also opening shooting opportunities for guards Quinn Cook and Tyus Jones.
"You have to make some allowances for him," North Carolina coach Roy Williams said in a pregame press conference, according to ESPN. "Because they can score inside and they've got terrific 3-point shooters, and that may make (the entire Duke team) more difficult to guard than anybody.
"The challenges they pose to you on the offensive end, trying to stop them, is really unlimited."
Krzyzewski said he has been impressed to see how Okafor has played defensively. His size may give him an advantage, but little can prepare a high school senior for the change in game speed in NCAA Division I hoops.
"It's amazing how good a job he's done on defense as a result of the physical play he has (faced) on the offensive end," the coach said ahead of the game.
