After a couple weeks of cruising, the dominant Kentucky Wildcats (1) are coming off a rare-near loss as they host the South Carolina Gamecocks.

With a win Saturday afternoon, Kentucky would improve to 25-0, tying the team's best start in school in history. Coach John Calipari has tried to keep that far from his players' minds as they not only try to set a school record, but go undefeated.

A day before the thrilling win over LSU, Calipari sent out three tweets jokingly wondering where freshman forward Trey Lyles was. His motive was to get fans to lighten up and perhaps also to shift attention away from the Wildcats' record.

"This isn't life or death. It's not March," Calipari said in a pregame press conference, according to ESPN. "It was also for the team. I wanted them to understand. I keep telling them, 'What's the worst (thing that could happen)? I'll say it this time, if we lose this game, then we're (24-1) or whatever it is. What's it matter? Just go play and try to get better.'"

Despite narrowly escaping LSU, Kentucky won in Kentucky fashion, with four different players registering at least a dozen points. Still, it was forward Karl Anthony-Towns who gave the game's best performance with 12 points, 13 rebounds, two blocks, two steals and two assists.

South Carolina is in the midst of a dismal SEC stretch, losing six of their last eight and going 3-8 against the conference overall. The Gamecocks will be barely be given any shred of a chance to win Saturday on the road, but the last time this season Kentucky had a close call, they another one in their following game.
