PROVIDENCE, R.I.[Brown University] - The Office of College Admission at Brown University is making official offers of admission to 2,760 applicants for the Class of 2016. Those offers, posted online at the University's admission website after 5 p.m. EDT on Thursday, March 29, 2012, represent 9.6 percent of applicants from a total pool of 28,742.

"We want to thank the nearly 29,000 students who gave us the privilege of learning more about them and their extraordinary accomplishments," said James Miller, dean of admission. "The Class of 2016, drawn from that remarkable pool of applicants, represents perhaps the most broadly talented and diverse class in Brown's history."

Of the admitted class, nearly two-thirds applied for financial aid. Currently, 47 percent of the Class of 2015 receives a need-based scholarship award; the average award is approximately $37,800.

"I am delighted that from this talented group of students will emerge the outstanding Class of 2016," said President Ruth J. Simmons. "I am particularly pleased that through the University's commitment to financial aid - having more than doubled the scholarship budget since the 2004-05 academic year - we are able to meet the demonstrated financial need of these students, ensuring that economic circumstances are not a barrier in considering a Brown education." Highlights of the admitted Class of 2016 include:
