English is still one of the most popular majors among U.S. students, though it tends to get a bad rep for having a small job market and a low payout.
According to College Factual, graduates from the 10 best schools to get a degree in English often start out with a meager salary, but can earn big mid-career. However, the list does include six Ivy League institutions and some prestigious private, non-ivy schools as well.
For English degree holders, the key to success may just be in how to use it. Viable career options include writing, teaching (which can be done simultaneously and with several different topics), and even advertising and marketing.
