Authorities have not revealed who was involved in the murder-suicide at the University of South Carolina (USC), but the school's president revealed the name of the shooting victim.

According to the State, USC President Harry Pastides posted a tweet Friday morning saying, "Let's honor Professor Fayad with respect." Raja Fayad, 45, was a graduate director and USC's head of applied physiology and an expert in colon cancer at the Arnold School of Public Health.

The State cited unnamed sources that confirmed Fayad as the shooting victim. The shooter, who committed suicide, is still unknown, though the Richland County Coroner Gary Watts could release that information Friday.

The newspaper also noted that many students and members of the USC community were naming Fayad as the victim by Thursday evening in mournful messages on social media platforms.

USC sent out its first alert regarding the incident around 1:15 p.m., ordering an immediate campus lockdown. The campus was then declared safe about an hour later, as local law enforcement was able to determine the incident was an "isolated murder-suicide."

A police spokesman told CNN the victim and the shooter appeared to be in some sort of relationship, but the context of which was still being worked out.

"Thank you also to our students, faculty and staff for their cooperation and fast action. We know the grieving period will be long and our counseling center is available to anyone who may need assistance," Pastides said in a statement. "Thank you to our community and law enforcement partners in the ongoing investigation. The South Carolina Law Enforcement Division is the lead investigative agency along with the Richland County coroner.

"Indeed this is a tragic day in our history. Patricia and I, along with the Board of Trustees, offer our condolences to the families and friends of the deceased."
