Mike Krzyzewski will go for his 1,000th win at Madison Square Garden.

The Duke Blue Devils (5) are visiting New York City Sunday to play the St. John's Red Storm with Coach K's win count at 999. No coach in NCAA Division I men's basketball has more wins than Krzyzewski.

Duke is two games removed from a road win against Louisville, which ended a two-game skid of back-to-back losses to N.C. State and Miami. Krzyzewski then registered win 999 at home against Pitt. He now has an added incentive to win no. 1,000 Sunday afternoon because Duke's next two games are Notre Dame and Virginia and both are on the road.

"In the history of college basketball Coach K has sustained a level of success that is incomparable," St. John's head coach Steve Lavin said in a pregame news conference. "No one has done it better for a longer period of time."

Lavin said the key matchup of the game will be how his leading big man, Chris Obekpa matches up against Jahlil Okafor, Duke's standout freshman center.

But regardless of their opponent, Duke is 25-8 at the Garden under Krzyzewski, including 17 wins in their last 20 games there, according to the team's official website. Krzyzewski even became the all-time leader in coaching wins in a 2011 game at the Garden.

The man behind him, Syracuse coach Jim Boeheim, has 961 wins and thought no one would ever reach 1,000.

"It's a number no one thought would ever be reached," he told Syracuse.com Thursday. "I remember when the number was '876' (Adolph Rupp's final tally) and it was like, 'There's no way anybody could possibly get to that.' Then you look at '1,000.' It's not a number you can really think about."
