What: Cherry Blossom 100th Anniversary Festival
When: Friday, March 30, 1:30 to 3:30 p.m.
Where: University CFPA Music Hall and Japan House, University of West Florida, 11000 University Pkwy., Pensacola, Fla., 32514
Why: The University of West Florida has been selected to be the official Cherry Blossom Festival site for the state of Florida, commemorating Japan's gift of cherry trees to Washington, D.C. 100 years ago.
From 1:30 to 3 p.m., join UWF President Judith Bense, Congressman Jeff Miller, Florida Secretary of State Kenneth Detzner and Pensacola Mayor Ashton Hayward, among others, as they speak on the tradition. The speeches, along with cultural entertainment including dance and musical performances, will be in the CFPA music hall.
Then, from 3:15 to 3:30 p.m., 100 cherry blossom trees will be symbolically planted at the Japan House on campus.
