With a three-game losing streak ongoing, the Vanderbilt Commodores seem the unlikely candidate to hand the Kentucky Wildcats (1) their first loss.

What's more is Kentucky is coming off two routs of SEC opponents after opening their conference schedule with three total overtimes against Ole Miss and Alabama. Vanderbilt is 1-3 against the SEC and lost their only game against a ranked opponent thus far, but that is what upsets are made of.

Being the unbeaten number one team on the AP poll every week including the preseason makes the Wildcats a target every game they play, and no one knows that more than their coach. But Kentucky has been able to keep their edge, using their supreme size and athleticism to be physical on defense while running an unselfish offense.

"I think we just came out with a lack of energy offensively and defensively, and it showed in how we played and how teams played against us," Kentucky forward Trey Lyles said in pregame comments, according to the AP. "The last couple of games we've picked it up, definitely."

At this point, Vanderbilt is playing to snap their losing streak and fight their way back in the SEC after stumbling early. If confidence is what it takes to start a winning streak on the heels of a skid, then beating Kentucky would do wonders for the Commodores.

"I'm hopeful that that's not something I have to worry about, but their defense is truly amazing," Vanderbilt coach Kevin Stallings said in his pregame comments. "Hopefully, it doesn't happen where our confidence is dinged any more than it already is."
