The Internet may have jumped the gun on a newly leaked image that was believed to be a mold for the rumored iPad Pro.

According to Apple Insider, the Czech Apple blog Letem svetem Applem first noticed an image of a metal slab on Weibo, a Chinese micro blogging website. On further investigation, Apple Insider noted the image was more likely to be an mold for the Apple Smart Cover.

But even if the mold is not of an unreleased new version of the iPad, the cover could be just as telling and users on Weibo were reportedly discussing what it could mean.

One theory is the mold may not be a mold and could be an installation unit to hold two adjoining pieces together. What the fixture is for, however, is up for debate as well.

There seems to be an area cut out in the slab for a hinge and both the Smart Cover and the MacBook laptops have hinges. The second theory is that the slab is a mold for one of these two products.

The third theory is the photo is a hoax. The user who posted it may have just taken a picture of a mold for a lunch tray and has never broken any news related to Apple products in the past. Since Apple does produce several products and components overseas, Weibo has been the source of leaked images in the past.

Still, with an average daily activity of 75 million users, only 21,000 were "fans" of the newly leaked image, Apple Insider reported.
