It seems as though Kenny Hill's time at Texas A&M is over, as he has reportedly asked the school to release him from his athletic scholarship.
According to ESPN, the young quarterback requested to be released Thursday with the intention of transferring, most likely to TCU. Unnamed sources said Hill, a Southlake, Texas native, may be looking to play closer to home.
TAMU 247 learned early Friday morning from unnamed sources that Texas A&M had granted Hill's release, confirming TCU as the transfer destination.
Hill had a memorable debut for Texas A&M, breaking several single-game records of Johnny Manziel's in his first season replacing Manziel. The Aggies went on to start out 5-0 with one of the most explosive offenses in the nation. After beating Arkansas by a touchdown in overtime, they lost three straight and five of their last seven.
Freshman QB Kyle Allen played well in replacing Hill, who had been suspended two games for an unspecified for violation, but Texas A&M also has an incoming five-star QB recruit in Kyler Murray.
TCU is expecting QB Trevone Boykin to return for his fourth year of NCAA eligibility, which would be a season Hill would have to sit out due to NCAA transfer rules.
In his first four games Hill posted QBRs of at least 91 every game while throwing 13 touchdowns against one interception. Starting with the Arkansas game, Hill posted QBRs of 81, 58, 75 and 23 while throwing 10 touchdowns against seven interceptions.
With Allen returning and Murray expected to sign, Hill may have been on the outside looking in at Texas A&M. At TCU, he would have the chance to start after only missing one season.
