It is no longer a secret, but Jim Harbaugh's hiring as the head football coach at the University of Michigan (UM) is all but official.

The UM alum and former Wolverines quarterback has reportedly agreed to sign a six-year contract worth $48 million and arrived in Ann Arbor along with his family. All that remains is a press conference scheduled for noon ET.

Unnamed sources told ESPN's Adam Schefter of the Tuesday press conference on Monday and the Detroit Free Press reported that Harbaugh has signed the document. The news spread quickly and now it is just a matter of time before the press conference is underway and UM announces the signing.

With an average annual value of about $8 million, Harbaugh would be the highest paid coach in college football. His salary would be about $1 million per year more than Nick Saban.

ESPN reported early Tuesday morning that Harbaugh arrived at a Detroit airport around 6 p.m. Monday and was wearing a Michigan hat when he was greeted by interim athletic director Jim Hackett. News of Harbaugh's agreement with UM had already spread by that time and, as SB Nation reported, a lot of attention was paid the plane that would be carrying the coach.

The Bank of Ann Arbor also raised several billboards Tuesday morning, the Free Press reported, with clear messages meant for Harbaugh.

Schefter reported that some NFL teams were still trying to contact Harbaugh before any deal was official with UM, but by Monday night the matter seemed to be settled. When announcing the presser, Hackett said to expect a "major announcement."

When the Michigan Daily reached the coach for comment after landing in Ann Arbor, he said he would "have some comments tomorrow."
