Michigan Football Coaching Candidates: John Harbaugh to Michigan? Detroit Free Press Pokes Fun at Themselves Over Gaffe
ByAfter Jim Harbaugh's departure from the 49ers organization became official, the Detroit Free Press jumped at the chance to report that "all signs" indicated he would go to Michigan.
But the newspaper may have jumped too quickly.
The Press accidently printed a photo of Jim's brother John Harbaugh, who is coaching the playoff-bound Baltimore Ravens, on the front-page teaser for their article on Michigan's football coaching search.
Now that the 49ers and Jim Harbaugh have officially agreed to part ways mutually, rather than trade the coach to another NFL team, Michigan can formally extend an offer. There is reportedly a six-year deal on the table for Harbaugh worth $48 million to bring him back to restore his alma mater's football team.
We've got a serious "Case of the Mondays." Our deepest apologies, folks. We'll have the right one tomorrow, promise. pic.twitter.com/ldTdKz2UwJ

As for the front page gaffe, the Press chalked it up to " a serious 'Case of the Mondays'" in a short statement on their sports section's Twitter account.
It is! Thanks so much RT @andrewhfine: Kudos to @freepsports for owning their mistake this AM and running with it. Tomorrow is another day! — Freep Sports (@freepsports) December 29, 2014
They also made fun of themselves and asked their readers to submit their own "Case of the Mondays" stories. Most users on Twitter seemed to laugh the error off with the newspaper.

With news consumption moving online, the Press did well to respond immediately and to not take the gaffe too seriously. When inevitably there will be another Jim Harbaugh development before lunch, many a reader will forget the mistake quickly.
