Mobile UW from the University of Wisconsin-Madison is getting a fresh upgrade that will make it look even better on the iPad and help users get around campus more efficiently.

The app, which launched in December 2010 for iOS and in July, 2011 for Android, is launching a free 1.2 version on both platforms today, Friday, March 9.

Users will be prompted to download the free update to 1.2 from the App Store or Google Play (formerly the Android Market). Or new users can get a free copy.

The major changes include:

- Native iPad support: Mobile UW now scales to take full advantage of the iPad's larger screen;

- More travel options: In response to user demand, we've added additional bike and bus directions to and from locations on the campus map and events pages; and,

- Mobile giving: For the first time, those who are interested in supporting UW-Madison can make a donation through a secure interface.

Use of Mobile UW, and the companion m.wisc.edu, site continues to skyrocket. The app has more than 20,000 users worldwide, with the majority using the iOS platform.

Mobile UW is perfect for anyone interested in UW-Madison, with useful information for students, faculty, staff, alumni and parents.

As part of its suite of mobile-enabled features, users can receive up to the minute campus news and events, get directions to campus buildings, watch lectures and see Badgers scores and schedules.

Staff at the Division of Information Technology and University Communications developed the app. Visit mobile.wisc.edu for complete details about Mobile UW along with information for developers.
