iPad Pro Release Date Rumors: Apple Reportedly Turns Its Attention to Revamping Tablet Line
ByRegardless of what it is called and how big it will end up being, Apple seems bound to release a device that would revamp the iPad line.
According to Mac Rumors, Japanese magazine Mac Fan detailed several specifications of the upcoming iPad in its Jan. issue. First off, the tablet is either going to be dubbed the "iPad Pro" or "iPad Air Plus" and will be at least 12 inches diagonally.
To this point, the iPad Pro has been rumored to have a 12.9-inch screen, about three inches larger than the current iPad Air 2. The new iPad would also get a processor upgrade, from the iPad Air 2's A8X to an A9.
The early indications seem to be pointing to a two-in-one iPad designed as much for business as it is for pleasure. But Apple is also preparing the iPad Mini 4 for those who do not want such a robust tablet. The Mini 4 would get the A8X processing chip, Mac Fan reported, and would take on several design aspects of the iPad Air 2.
Known for his insights to Apple's movements, KGI Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo told Mac Rumors in Nov. the iPad Pro may not go into mass production until quarter two of 2015. That came after reports from Bloomberg News and the Wall Street Journal that pegged the production much earlier.
But with the iPhone 6 and 6 Plus on the market, Apple appears ready to tackle the new iPad and their first-ever Watch. While the Apple Watch is the company's first foray into the wearable device market, the iPad line is in need of a jolt.
Like they did with the new iPhones, Apple seems ready to provide that spark by going bigger than ever with the iPad Pro, or iPad Air Plus if they take a cue from the iPhone 6 Plus.
