Playing 10 seasons in a town where many a blockbuster comes together, Landon Donovan and his L.A. Galaxy teammates are writing one of their own.

On Sunday, the Galaxy lost to Seattle 2-1, but that lone goal clinched the Western Conference Championship and the shot at the MLS Cup. The Galaxy will play the New England Revolution in Donovan's final season as a professional soccer player.

Per MLSSoccer.com:

"It seems perfect, yeah," Donovan said after clinching the Western Conference title. "But we've got to win it. That's our challenge. We're playing a team that I think is the best team in the league the last 10 or 12 games, so it's going to be a challenge.

"In the few minutes at halftime that I had time to ponder, I wanted to make sure that this wasn't it.

"I wanted to make sure, regardless of the outcome that I put it all in and it worked out well."

Donovan has been adamant about his impending retirement, but the all-time U.S. soccer great knows the season is not over. Halftime against Seattle and Team USA teammate Clint Dempsey was the second time Donovan has come close to his career being over. The first time was the previous series against Real Salt Lake.

According to the Galaxy's game report, Donovan took a corner kick in the 54th minute and delivered the series-clinching assist to Juninho, who scored from 20 yards out.

Any pro athlete would dream of winning the title in their final season and Donovan truly has a rare opportunity. He will come face-to-face with another Team USA star, as the Revolution signed Jermaine Jones earlier this year.

"We haven't won anything yet," Donovan said. "This is just the first step along the way. The first part was the Salt Lake series, and now Seattle. Nobody's had to do it harder than we have. These are two very good teams. To beat the best team in the regular season during a series like this is very difficult.

"Now we get one game at home to win a championship, so if anyone had said at the beginning of the year, we'd take it in a heartbeat and we're going to go with everything to win it."
