The University of South Carolina has their head football coach for at least two more seasons, though Steve Spurrier said he could maybe go three or more.

Speaking with Columbia, S.C.'s the State newspaper, Spurrier said addressed rumors of his status as the head coach of the Gamecocks. He said he is not making any long-term promises, but plans to coach through the 2016 season.

"I'm good to go," he said. "I just made about 21 recruiting calls. This is a good situation, and I think we can turn it around quickly. I hope so.

"I'm in. I'm in... We had some down times and some of this, that and the other, but we've got a lot of good players on the way."

Spurrier and the Gamecocks are finishing a 6-6 season, going 3-5 against the SEC and finishing in the middle of the Eastern division. However, South Carolina has to be disappointed in their season, as they were a preseason favorite to compete for the division.

"Give me two or three more," Spurrier told the State. "I used to say four or five, now I'm down to two or three. I mean, I could get in a car wreck, but I'm definitely planning on being back."

He did not talk about the job security of his staffers, but said he expects to have to fill some positions when all is said and done.

"All our coaches are out recruiting. All of coaches are under contract," Spurrier told the newspaper. "Some of them may get a job somewhere else, you never know, and we'll go from there. We are probably pretty flexible right now a little bit on the staff, but I believe that almost all of our guys will be back."

Spurrier is 83-45 at South Carolina and 225-85-2 overall in the college game, but his 10th season at the helm of the Gamecocks ended bitterly with a loss to in-state rival Clemson.

"We are trying to do the best we can right now to keep working with this team we've got for one more ball game and see if we can't compete at a higher level than we did the last time out," he said. "That's our immediate plan right there."
