Thompson Rivers University has reappointed Dr. Alan Shaver as president and vice-chancellor, school officials announced.
The institution's Board of Governors made the decision unanimously based upon the recommendation of the Presidential Review Committee and the results of the survey open to students, faculty, staff and community members in October. His three year term will begin on Sept. 1, and will see him complete an eight year presidency.
"The importance of universities to build and nourish our communities is greater than ever. I am honored to be the president of Thompson Rivers University and I dedicate myself to work with faculty, students, and staff to make Thompson Rivers University an even better place to learn, teach, and create new knowledge and understanding for the benefit of all people," Shaver said.
The Presidential Review Advisory Committee consisted of a broad range of Thompson Rivers University's community members including students, faculty, governors, senate members, deans, and administration.
"The recommendation from the committee for reappointment was unanimous. The board is confident in Alan's leadership, and looks forward to the next three years," Brian Ross, chair of the review committee and TRU's Board of Governors, said in a statement. "Over 300 people completed the survey, and Alan scored strongly. There were many accolades for his achievements and constructive suggestions on improving internal communication and creating stronger ties with the faculty. I know that all of the input will help Alan move TRU and all of its stakeholders towards our common goals."
Since his appointment to TRU in 2010, school officials said Shaver has strengthened the school's student services department, led the development of strategic priorities, more than doubled private fundraising, and saw TRU accepted into the Research Universities Council of BC. Shaver is also credited for raising Thompson Rivers University's profile regionally, provincially and internationally.
