For the first time in a long time, the Egg Bowl rivalry matchup between the Ole Miss Rebels (19) and the Mississippi State Bulldogs (4) means something.

According to the Associated Press, Saturday afternoon's Egg Bowl will be just the third one in the last 57 years to take place when both teams are ranked. Mississippi State could take the SEC West with a win, but they will also need Alabama to lose to Auburn.

No longer in contention for the SEC title, Ole Miss will be the home team, but not even 100 miles separate the two campuses. On top of everything else, Mississippi State can win 11 games in a season for the first time in school history, but the bragging rights in the state of Miss. are enough to motivate the players.

"This is a game that doesn't take a lot of motivation to get up for," Ole Miss linebacker Deterrian Shackelford told reporters.

In the Egg Bowl last year, Bulldogs quarterback Dak Prescott led his team to a come-from-behind overtime victory, which also qualified Mississippi State for a bowl game. This year, the team is trying to take another step.

No team has allowed fewer points per game than Ole Miss and only one of their three losses have come at home. The Rebels were a mid-season favorite to make the inaugural College Football Playoff, with their tough defense and seven straight wins. However, they lost three of their next four games, including a 30-0 drubbing at the hands of Arkansas last weekend.

"It's a game played with emotions and a game played with the heart," Prescott told reporters. "It's a good rivalry and I'm glad to be a part of it."
