In a loaded SEC, the Alabama Crimson Tide (5) have their work cut out for them to make the inaugural College Football Playoff (CFP) and it starts with beating the LSU Tigers (16) on the road.

With two losses in the SEC West, LSU has a slim shot at the CFP, but the most competitive conference in college football is also the most fickle. Currently ranked just outside the coveted top four, Alabama has three home games to conclude their season, though two of them are against Mississippi State (1) and Auburn (3).

Alabama also has the SEC championship to look to if they can surpass Mississippi State for the lead in the Western division. Then the CFP voters will have to determine how many SEC teams to let in and who they should be.

"These games are traditionally very tough, physical games between two ranked teams," Alabama coach Nick Saban told reporters regarding his team's remaining schedule, according to the Associated Press. "It's certainly not going to be any different this year."

Both LSU and Alabama boast terrific defenses and Saturday's host is particularly good on their home field. LSU has allowed more than one score twice in their five home games while also recording two shutouts in such games.

Both teams' offenses can run the ball well, though Alabama may hold an advantage with their passing game. Saban will be thrilled to be able to use starting running back T.J. Yeldon, who was deemed healthy this week, to compliment quarterback Blake Sims.

"They have a very physical team, and they're playing physical football right now," Saban said. "There's not a lot of trick 'em to it. You've just got to match and be the same kind of physical team to be able to have a chance."
