The TCU Horned Frogs (7) and West Virginia Mountaineers (20) are in for a high-scoring affair that will have Big 12 and College Football Playoff (CFP) implications.

West Virginia was not expected to compete for the conference title, yet they are 4-1 in the Big 12 and 6-2 overall, three weeks removed from an upset over then-fourth-ranked Baylor. TCU is two weeks removed from putting up 82 on Texas Tech and have their sights set on reaching the CFP top four.

West Virginia quarterback Clint Trickett has led one of the 10 best passing offenses in the nation, but they are not putting up the kind of points their opponents are. TCU, on the other hand, has one of the five best passing offenses and the highest-scoring offense in the nation thanks to dual-threat QB Trevone Boykin.

The last road game against a ranked opponent for TCU was Oct. 11 against Baylor, a 61-58 loss when the Bears were ranked fifth overall.

"I don't know if any of the games that we played on the road, except for the Baylor game that we played this year, would be more magnitude than what this ballgame is," TCU coach Gary Patterson said this week, according to the Associated Press.

West Virginia is on a four-game winning streak after starting the season 2-2, granted those two losses were to then-second-ranked Alabama and then-fourth-ranked Oklahoma.

Patterson and TCU set to become bowl eligible this season, but now their goals have changed slightly.

"We wanted to get to be bowl eligible, we got to that point. Now everyone counts once," he said. "Two tough games in a row. West Virginia going to Morgantown, really they're playing really well right now on both sides of the ball, and then Kansas State. You can say the same about them."
