The Bowdoin College has once again topped the list of colleges that offers the best dining services in the country, according to a survey by the "Daily Meal".
The researchers said that their excellent performance in the list can be attributed to their varied menu options available at their service. The food packages include mussels in butter sauce, haddock with jalapeños, squash fettuccine and roasted root vegetables with polenta among others.
Plus, the colleges use local ingredients, locally raised beef and pumpkins grown right on campus in the garden.
"Bowdoin Dining is absolutely amazing. While some dishes are repeated, they are usually student favorites. Tons of options, high quality, the type of food that you miss when you go home, not the other way around," a College sophomore said, NICHE reports.
The researchers arrived at the rankings based on several rankings including Nutrition and Sustainability, Accessibility and Service, Education and Events, Surrounding Area and the X factor.
Bowdoin is followed by the Johns Hopkins University. The dining services at JHU comprises of hotel-quality brunch, food and wine pairings for seniors, themed monotony breakers every month and on-campus cooking classes on healthy eating.
The food options offered at dining halls include manicotti puttanesca, house-smoked beef brisket sandwiches, Texas-style French toast, oven-roasted meatloaf with honey carrots and steamed peas among others.
The dining halls serve food in small quantities to reduce waste and to have the freshest options available for students. They use cage-free eggs, hormone-free milk and local produce. The Halls use compostable paper products and to-go packaging, and composts all its food wastes and organic materials.
"This is a significant INVESTMENT, not just in the health of our students, faculty and staff, but in the wellbeing of our city and region," President Ronald J. Daniels said in a statement. "It demonstrates our commitment, as the city's largest private employer, to sustaining the community we call home."
For students with hungry pangs late at night, C-stores on campus are open as late as 2:00 a.m.
