Nick Marshall may or may not know how long his week one suspension will last for a marijuana citation, but he has owned up to his mistake, speaking of the incident for the first time.

According to ESPN, Marshall, the Auburn Tigers' projected starter this year, told reporters he spoke one-on-one with head football coach Gus Malzahn and addressed his teammates. Malzahn previously indicated he will have Marshall sit out for at least part of the team's opener against Arkansas.

Marshall was pulled over July 11 for having tinted windows and police found 8-10 grams of marijuana after they smelled it in the vehicle. He paid $100 for the window citation and $1,000 for the marijuana possession.

"I made a mistake and I'm just trying to gain the trust back from my coaches, my teammates and Auburn's fans," Marshall said at a news conference. "I'm just going to accept my punishment with open hands.

"The incident that happened is just going to change me and make [me] a better man."

Marshall said he addressed the team immediately after the incident took place and spoke with Malzahn later on. The quarterback was scheduled to represent his team at the SEC Media Days event, but was pulled after the citation.

"He just told us he was embarrassed and he's going to do whatever he's got to do to get back and help us win games," Reese Dismukes, the Tigers' center, told ESPN at the time.

Jeremy Johnson will get the start Saturday, Aug. 30 at home against their SEC West foes. Unlike Marshall, Johnson is a big, less-athletic pocket passer, but Rhett Lashlee, Auburn's offensive coordinator, is not worried about how the team will play.

Marshall ran for more than 1,000 yards last season and totaled 12 touchdowns on the ground, contributing to the nation's best running game.

"Jeremy's best days have probably been the last three or four days," Lashlee recently told the Tigers' website. "He's throwing the ball really well, starting to make good decisions. We're getting better throwing and catching the ball just because of repetition, timing and continuity. It's been really good the last couple of days."
