Florida State Football Recruiting: Deondre Francois Highlights Seminoles' Trio of 2015 QB Commits
ByThe Florida State Seminoles are already preparing for life after Jameis Winston, as they have secured commitments from three quarterbacks in the class of 2015.
According to ESPN, all three are among the 300 best high school football prospects in the nation. Deondre Francois, a dual-threat passer ranked fourth overall at his position, made his announcement Thursday at his high school.
Though ESPN's evaluators say Francois is quick and can reach a good top speed, they say his true weapon is his arm, which is strong and accurate at short, medium and long distances. At six-foot-two, he is not tall nor short for a QB, but the evaluators said he needs to add bulk to his 188-pound frame to become stronger and more durable.
De'Andre Johnson is the ninth ranked QB in ESPN's class and is smaller and leaner than Francois and does not have the same throwing arm, but a much more dangerous runner. Rounding out the trio is Kai Locksley, who was a surprise commitment, the Orlando Sentinel reported.
Locksley made his announcement shortly before Francois', but the 11th ranked QB of the 2015 class has strong ties to his hometown of Maryland, as his father serves as the team's offensive coordinator. Texas, Auburn and Alabama were also believed to be in the running, but Locksley announced his decision earlier than anyone expected.
While more unrefined than Johnson and Francois, ESPN evaluators say Locksley has a great arm, good top speed and a desirable six-foot-four, 190-pound frame.
Though Winston has previously said he wants to stay at Florida State until he earns his degree, the reigning Heisman Trophy winner could well be tempted by the possibility of being a high NFL Draft choice. With the trio of QB commits entering their senior high school season, Florida State still has at least one more year with Winston before ushering in the class that will one day replace him.
