In the Southeastern Conference (SEC), football teams only need to look to their backyard to recruit and, according to Steve Spurrier, no one has ever done it better than Nick Saban.

Speaking at the SEC Media Days in Hoover, ESPN reported, Ala., Spurrier said one only needs to look at the Crimson Tide's roster on an annual basis to know who lands the most talented recruits in college football. The 10th-year coach of the South Carolina Gamecocks said Alabama will be "the favorites" in the SEC this year.

"They've done extremely well, there's no question about that," Spurrier said during his turn at the podium. "I think they've had five No. 1 recruiting classes out of the last six years, which has got to make [Saban] the greatest recruiter in the history of college football.

"Arguably they've got the greatest collection of football players ever assembled on a college team, if the recruiting services are correct."

In the SEC, the competition is arguably the highest in college football with teams like LSU, Florida, Texas A&M and Auburn. Alabama is the current leader in all-time winning percentage (.714) and National Championship titles (15) for SEC football. The next closest team in terms of national titles is Tennessee, with six.

"They do it the right way," Spurrier said. "He runs a good program. It's just amazing how they've been able to stack and keep loading up on players each year."

Spurrier is not one to hold back his opinions, as he told the State recently that he felt Alabama failed to reach its potential, according to USA Today.

"How many SEC titles has he won there in eight years? He's won two," Spurrier said. "He's won three nationals, but he's only won two SECs in eight years. Now, if you had the No. 1 recruiting class every year and so forth, I don't know if he has maxed out potentially as well as he could."
