Argentina finished their semifinal match with the Netherlands tied at 0-0 after both full and extra time. The Argentinians advanced to the World Cup final by winning 4-2 in a penalty kick shootout. Lionel Messi has led the way for Argentina, scoring four of his team's eight World Cup goals and providing the assist to Angel Di Maria in the 118th minute to beat Switzerland in the Round of 16.

Germany has boasted a prolific offense, totaling 17 goals, thanks to seven in the group stage and 10 more in the Round of 16, quarterfinal and semifinal matches. Thomas Mueller has contributed five scores for the Germans and has assisted his teammates three times.

While Germany came out of a group with tough competition and a grueling travel schedule, Argentina's group stage was less difficult. However, they continued their winning ways despite playing opponents like the Swiss, Belgium and the Netherlands.

Germany beat Algeria and France to get to the semifinal, where they met the host nation and tournament favorites Brazil. However, the Brazilians were missing both Neymar Jr. and Thiago Silva.
