Emmys 2014: Game of Thrones Leads All Shows With 19 Nominations, but Did the Academy Still Manage a Major Snub?
ByThanks to its stellar-as-usual lineup of television shows, HBO has once again dominated the list of Emmy nominations, but no single series did better this year than "Game of Thrones."
HBO received 99 total nominations and the next closest networks were CBS, NBC and FX with 47, 46 and 45, respectively. With 19 of their own, "Game of Thrones" led the way among all nominated shows, spanning acting, writing, directing and technical categories.

Major Nominations:
Outstanding Drama Series
Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Drama Series - Peter Dinklage, Tyrion Lannister
Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Drama Series - Lena Headley, Cersei Lannister
Outstanding Directing for a Drama Series - Neil Marshall, "The Watchers on the Wall"
Outstanding Writing for a Drama Series - David Benioff and D.B. Weiss, "The Children"
Biggest Surprise:
Lena Headley's nomination was surprising since "GoT" has only produced one female acting nomination at the Emmy's, Emilia Clarke for her portrayal of Daenerys Targaryen in season 3. Dinklage is the only other actor to be nominated, receiving the Outstanding Supporting Actor nomination in each of the show's four seasons.
Headley's nomination is well deserved, as she plays the diabolical queen-regent, the show's true villain, extraordinarily.
Biggest Snub:
Pedro Pascal should have been nominated for Outstanding Guest Actor in a Drama Series. He portrayed the short-lived Oberyn Martell and appeared in seven of "GoT's" 10 season four episodes. Pascal introduced the audience to Oberyn, Prince of Dorne as a sexually ambiguous lunatic who came to King's Landing with the single intention of killing members of the Lannister household.
Pascal nailed one of the season's most important scenes when he vowed to be Tyrion's champion in the upcoming trial by combat, thus making Oberyn one of the series' most-liked characters in a matter of five minutes.
Saw It Coming:
Dinklage's nomination was to be expected, especially since Tyrion is one of the series' most important and deepest characters. It is tough to nominate a lead actor in "GoT" given the shear volume of characters, but Dinklage is as much a lead actor as any among this cast.
