The United States defied the odds by advancing over Portugal and Ghana in a tricky group, the New York Times reported.

Despite accruing nine points, Belgium has underwhelmed thus far in their World Cup campaign with three "very questionable" performances. The Red Devils won all three group games by one goal and allowed one score, by penalty kick. Meanwhile, Americans' limitations were exposed when they lost to Germany Thursday.

Furthermore, history seems to be on Belgium's side.

The European country recently beat the United States 4-2 in a "friendly match. "

However, USA goalkeeper Tim Howard told "CBS This Morning" that despite their defeat in the friendly match against Belgium, he feels his team can "match up well against them."

"We relish the role of underdog," Howard said. "It keeps us hungry. It allows us to not be complacent," Howard said.

The United States' national soccer team is trying to reach the quarterfinal for the second time in history, the first in 12 years, the San Jose Mercury News reported.

According to Weather.com, the temperature in the city of Salvador, where the match will take place in the Itaipava Arena Fonte Nova, will reach the 90s and will be partly cloudy.

The winner of this match will face Argentina Saturday.
