After their comeback in game one of the College World Series (CWS) final came up just short, the Virginia Cavaliers beat the Vanderbilt Commodores in game two to force a decisive game three.

Tuesday night, Virginia got a huge lift from starting pitcher Brandon Waddell, who pitched all nine innings and only surrendered two runs en route to a 7-2 victory. Thanks to the complete game, Virginia's bullpen will be rested and fresh for the title game Wednesday night.

"I didn't know how long I'd be in the game," Waddell told the Associated Press. "I tried to keep going until they told me to stop.

"I felt in the beginning I was trying to do too much, put too much behind the ball, spraying it here and there. I settled in later in the game. I put the pitches where I needed to."

Vanderbilt and starter Tyler Beede took a 2-1 lead into the sixth inning, when Virginia put up three runs to take the lead. An inning later, the Cavaliers added two more runs against Beede. Ben Bowden, Tyler Ferguson and T.J. Pecoraro combined to pitch two-and-a-third innings in relief while only surrendering one run.

"I know the bounce-back this team has shown all year long," Virginia coach Brian O'Connor told the AP. "You know when you go through a season with a team, you start to learn and understand what they're made of and what the fiber of a team is. I told the team after the game last night that there is no panic in this ballclub. Come out tonight and play a great ballgame, and we'd have a chance to win."

Vanderbilt and Virginia will play for the CWS title Wednesday night at TD Ameritrade Park in Omaha, Neb.
