With two wins already in hand, Costa Rica has guaranteed itself a spot in the knockout round while two straight losses have knocked England out. With three points apiece, only Uruguay or Italy can advance.

At seventh, Uruguay came into the World Cup two places ahead of Italy on FIFA's official rankings list. Italy is coming off being shutout by Costa Rica, but they at least hold a goal-differential advantage over Uruguay.
Luis Suarez will an important man for Italy to defend, as he is coming off a game against England in which he scored both his team's goals in the 2-1 win over England. Suarez opened the scoring in the 39th minute, but England's Wayne Rooney tied the match in the 75th. Suarez scored the go-ahead goal 10 minutes later and Uruguay did not relinquish that lead.
Due to their 3-1 loss to Costa Rica, Uruguay's goal differential is -1, whereas Italy's is even at 0. In the event of a draw, Italy will advance since goal differential is the first tiebreaker.
Playing in 18 of the 20 World Cup tournaments to have ever taken place, Italy is one of the most accomplished national teams, winning the title four times and as recently as 2006. But Uruguay is no slouch either, as they have been in the tournament 12 times and won the title twice, though not since 1950.
