Sierra College named Ben Noonan as its new head football coach. He will replace the recently retired Jeff Tisdel. Noonan will also be teaching physical education at the Rocklin campus beginning this summer.

Tisdel was with Sierra for 12 years and took the team to the national levels. His wins include a 7-game winning streak and bowl game success.

"We're fortunate to get a coach who we feel can take an already successful program to a new level of success," Sierra athletic director, Peg Grady, said. "Coach Noonan brings a unique perspective, and an innovative offense to Rocklin."

The Sierra College Football team, 'Wolverines,' have appeared in ten bowl games, and have won 37 straight games from 2002-05. Also, more than 80 players have qualified to play in colleges in the last few years.

Earlier, Noonan worked as an offensive coordinator at Citrus College for the last four seasons; as an offensive graduate assistant at Baylor University for a year (2007-08); as co-offensive coordinator at West Texas A&M for two seasons (2005-07) and as an offensive assistant at Texas A&M Kingsville for two years.

As an offensive coordinator at Citrus, his coaching skills resulted in quarterbacks achieving new records for yards, completions and touchdowns, and four members of his 2010 offensive line team qualified to play for NCAA Division 1 BCS universities.

Noonan played football for San Rosa Junior College and Bemidji State University from where he completed his BA in English.

He received his master's degree in kinesiology/sports and exercise science from Texas A&M-Kingsville, 2004.

Noonan started his career as a coach with Mendocino College in 2000 as a passing-game coordinator.

Sierra College comprises of 750 full and part-time faculty members and 18,000 students and offers around 125 degree and certificate programs in varied subjects.
