After leading the football team at Carver High for eight seasons, Dell McGee, the head coach, is stepping down from his post to be part of Auburn University football team's support staff, starting Monday.

Apart from McGee, other people hired for administrative positions at Auburn include Chip Lindsey from Spain Park and Brent Dearmon of B.C. Rain.

McGee's leadership saw Carver Tigers football team achieve 88 wins, six region championships and a state title.

He told Ledger-Enquirer that he is grateful for the opportunities presented to him at Carver High.

Carver principal, Christopher Lindsey, said that it will be difficult to find a replacement for a person like McGee.

"Right now, the process has already started as far as me coming up with ideas of names of guys that can fill McGee's shoes," Lindsey told the newspaper.

During his tenure at the school, McGee, helped the team win the Class AAA state championship in 2007 and produced athletes such as Isaiah Crowell and Jarvis Jones, who are expected to make it into the NFL draft.

DeRon Furr, who played for Carver Tigers, from 2006-08 told the newspaper that McGee made them jell well together and bond like a family.

Furr said that as a result a lot of the players looked up to him as a father figure.

D.J. Jones, a former Tiger player, told the newspaper that Carver is ready to go to the next level.

Apart from Auburn, there are other universities such as Alabama, Georgia and Texas Tech among others, hiring high school coaches due to no objection rules by NCAA regarding the size of the team's staff.
